New range formulated to allow those with lactose intolerance to enjoy dairy products
DUBLIN – XX March 2018 Colief has today announced the launch of the Milkaid® range, to tackle lactose intolerance in adults, including Milkaid® Tablets and Milkaid® Drops.
Lactose intolerance affects up to four million people in the UK alone, and the convenient and easy to use new Milkaid® range can help to prevent symptoms such as wind, bloating and diarrhoea suffered by so many.
Milkaid® allows you to enjoy the goodness of milk and dairy foods again, without feeling uncomfortable – a revelation. As an important part of a balanced diet, milk and dairy provide vitamins A, B1, B12 and D and are a rich source of calcium – an essential for growing teeth and bones, and in the prevention of osteoporosis in older people.
Milkaid® Tablets are a first, a raspberry flavoured chewable tablet, free from artificial flavours, gluten or yeast, but that contain the enzyme lactase to improve the digestion of lactose. These should be taken just before consuming food to work effectively, so offer a convenient relief when eating out.
The Milkaid® Drops can be simply added to milk or other liquid dairy products, and are able to reduce the lactose level by up to 99%.
Lactose intolerance is caused by a lack of lactase in the body, an enzyme needed to digest lactose by splitting it into two easier-to-digest sugars, glucose and galactose. Those with an intolerance end up with a painful build-up of lactose in the colon, which will ferment and produce acid and gas resulting in abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhoea.
“Some people are unable to enjoy dairy due to lactose intolerance, meaning they are potentially missing out on some of the benefits associated with dairy products, such as calcium for maintaining bone health, and iodine, which ensures the thyroid functions correctly,” said Judy More, Dietitian and registered Nutritionist.
“Although some dairy free products are often fortified with calcium, other essential minerals such as iodine may not be added, so using a product to lower the lactose load is an easy way for people to be able to enjoy and benefit from everyday dairy products again such as cheese, milk, yogurt and ice cream. Having two new convenient products will therefore be a welcome addition by the lactose intolerant community.”
Milkaid® Tablets have an RRP of £12.99 for 120 tables and the Milkaid® Drops are priced at £15.99 for 15ml. Both are available to purchase at Holland and Barrett and at independent pharmacies.
